How can critical theory be applied to community organization?
It requires that your team becomes conscious of the many ways you and those in the community are being exploited, convinced there is no hope for change, and believe you are powerless.
What is counsciousness-raising in critical theory?
It is when you analyze the ways you are being exploited and how you can join together to resist it and build a higher quality life.
How can post-modernism be applied to community organizaing?
Understanding that with any decision comes unhappiness from someone. Making decisions requires courage and all you can do is your best.
How can discursive ethics be applied to commun ity organizing?
Justice can only be built through the consensus of everyone affected rather than idnividual decisions. This is very important in communities as it ensures everyone who is affected is involved and respected. All voices need to be heard and understood.
What is wrong with modernism?
It has failed and has been the result of impovrishment and endagering global ecology.
How can Foucault’s ethics of power be applied to community organizing?
Awareness of the possiblity of power imbalances and the subtle ways those in power tend to maintain their power is important. Motives and power imbalances must be examined before participating in organizing activities.
What is the ethics of care?
Warm, reciprical relationships. Being with others basesd on the experience of being cared for and caring in return. It is based on action and is important in community building.
