Renewable resources -
No limited in supply e.g. wind , sunlight
What are 3 core pillars of sustainability ?
There are three core pillars of sustainability and we need to consider how consumers shocked and behaviour impacts each of these pillars -
- social - people
- environment - planet
- economic - profit
What is an ethical consumer ?
Ethical consumers only buy products that are produced in a fair and honest way
What are ethical consumer concerned about ?
Impacts on the environment - pollution
Impacts on people - exploitation of workers
Impacts on animals - animal testing
Sustainability
What is the CSR ?
Corporate social responsibility - is the duty of business to act in the best interest of all those who are affected by their activities (their stakeholders) , not just their owners (their shareholders)
Examples of ethical responsibilities -
- treating people well and paying them a fair wage for their work
- providing customers with high-quality products
- minimising pollution
What can you do to limit the negative impacts of your consumer choices?
Engage in life cycle thinking (cradle to grave) - working conditions , waste production , pollution
Ask questions - where was a product made? What is it made of?
Reduce reuse and recycle
Shop local where possible - helps reduce food miles
