Explain what happened during the Cuban Missile Crisis and why having a peaceful outcome was so important.
-Soviet Union wanted to put nuclear missiles in Cuba–only 90 miles from U.S.
-U.S. said no then blockaded around Cuba while Soviet ships were on the way
-Soviet ships turned around & war was averted
-so important b/c missiles would’ve been close enough to damage much of U.S.
-heightened tensions b/c in the middle of the Cold War
-could’ve led to war very easily
