Chapter 19 Equilibria Flashcards

(4 cards)

1
Q

What do different values of K represent ?

A
  • K = 1 equilibrium position is halfway
  • K = 100 equilibrium position favours the products
  • K = 1x10^-2 equilibrium position favours the reactants

Q

What condition causes the value of K to change ?

A
  • at a given temperature K does NOT change
  • K can only change when temperature changes
  • pressure or concentration cannot change the value of K

Q

What happens to the K value when there is an increase in temperature (forwards is exothermic) ?

A

K value decreases with increasing temperature, raising temperature decreases equilibrium yield of product
