chapter 2 Flashcards
measurement
Measurement is the process of finding out the size, amount, or value of something using numbers and units, like meters for length or grams for weight.
precision
Precision refers to how close measurements of the same item are to each other.
mass
Mass is the amount of matter in an object, and it stays the same no matter where you are.
matter
In physics, matter is anything that has mass and takes up space (volume)
Define the differences between precision and accuracy
Precision is how close your measurements are to each other, while accuracy is how close your measurements are to the correct or true value.
Define the differences between weight and mass
Weight is the force of gravity pulling on an object, and it can change depending on where you are (like on Earth or the Moon). Mass is the amount of matter in an object, and it always stays the same no matter where you are.
What is inertia and how does it affect an individual
Inertia is the resistance of an object to any change in its motion. If something is at rest, it stays at rest; if it’s moving, it keeps moving at the same speed and in the same direction unless a force acts on it.
For example:
- If you’re riding a skateboard and it suddenly hits a rock, the skateboard stops, but your body keeps moving forward because of inertia.
What are the differences between SI units and metric units?
si = kilos, meter
metric = grams,
What are derived quantities?
A derived quantity is a physical quantity that is calculated from two or more measurements and cannot be measured directly.
- What are fundamental quantities?
Fundamental quantities are basic measurements that can’t be broken down into simpler units.
