Chapter 2 Flashcards
(18 cards)
Primary action of superior oblique and inferior oblique
Superior oblique = intorsion
Inferior oblique = extortion
When are the obliques responsible for elevation and depression ?
When pointed towards nose (55 degrees addicted) the superior oblique depression and inferior oblique elevates.
When are the recti muscles responsible for elevation and depression?
When abducted 23 degrees the superior rectus elevates and the inferior rectus depresses.
Do strokes cause ipsi or contralateral complications?
Contralateral
Does Bell’s palsy cause ipsi or contralateral problems?
Ipsilateral. (Damages lower motor neurons that have already crossed brainstem) CN 7
Cranial nerve 7
Sensory and motor, hearing, facial (Bell’s palsy)
CN 7 is motor. True or false?
What three functions does CN 7 do?
True. And sensory too
Motor: facial expression (Bell’s palsy)
Sensory: anterior 2/3 of tongue for taste
Voluntary: facial expression
Involuntary: dampening if sound, lacrimation
Does the entire CN desiccate?
Yes. Crosses so patient will tilt head in the direction of the lesion but opposite of the palsy.
Accommodation affects IOP:
When ciliary muscle contracts it pulls on the scleral spur which pull on TM which opens the pores allowing more aqueous outflow thus decreasing IOP
Yes!
What do the vortex veins drain?
Choroid
What is the length of adult eye?
20 24 or 28 mm
24mm
What is curvature of cornea and is the corns steeper anteriorly or posteriorly?
7.8 mm anteriorly
6.5 mm posteriorly
So steeper posteriorly and flatter anteriorly
Temporary lobe lesion = pie ____
Parietal lobe lesion = pie ____
Temporal = pie in the sky
Parietal = pie on the floor
(Remember you party on the floor)
Outer retina Blood is supplied by choroid. Inner retina is supplied by CRA. What layer gets both?
The OPL is the only layer that is supplied by both!
R P E O O I I G N I
Retina
ONL cell body of PR
INL cell body bipolar cells
Ganglion cell body of ganglion cells
Yes!
Thickest area of retina
Parafovea (due to bipolar and ganglions being pushed aside)
What is in foveola?
PR with axons (called Henle’s layer)
