Chapter 2 - Airspace administration Flashcards
(35 cards)
What type of flight is permitted in class A airspace?
IFR only. VFR not permitted with the exception of military aircraft in miliatry controlled or restricted airspace (MATS 2.4.1.1, 2.4.1.1 Note 2).
Class A airspace speed limitation?
No limitation applies (MATS 2.4.1.1).
What separation is IFR traffic provided in class A airspace?
All aircraft (MATS 2.4.1.1).
Within radar coverage what is the upper and lower limit of class A airspace?
Upper: FL600
Lower: FL180 (MATS 2.4.2.1)
Outside radar coverage what is the upper and lower limit of class A airspace?
Upper: FL600
Lower: FL245 (MATS 2.4.2.1)
Where airspaces adjoin vertically or laterally, which of the airspaces services are provided?
Airspace of the lower alphabetical categorisation (where A is highest and G lowest) (MATS 2.4.1.3).
What is the speed limitation of VFR aircraft in class C airspace?
250Kt IAS below 10 000ft AMSL (MATS 2.4.1.1).
What separation is provided to IFR aircraft in class C airspace?
IFR from IFR, VFR and Special VFR (MATS 2.4.1.1).
In what classes of airspace is Special VFR permitted?
C and D (MATS 2.4.1.1).
Class C airspace radio requirements?
Continuous two-way.
v39.1 - 2.4.1.1
WIthin radar coverage south of Sydney what is the upper and lower limit of class C airspace, and under what airspace does it sit?
Upper: FL180
Lower: FL125
Under class A airspace (MATS 2.4.2.1).
Where would class C airspace most often be expected/encountered?
Controlled area steps associated with controlled aerodromes or in CTR’s of defined dimensions (MATS 2.4.2.1).
What separation is provided for VFR aircraft operating in class C airspace?
VFR from IFR - Air Traffic Control SERVICE for separation from IFR.
VFR/VFR traffic INFORMATION
(and advice to avoid other aircraft on request)
(MATS 2.4.1.1)
What speed limitations are applied in class D airspace?
200kts at or below 2500’ AAL within 4nm of aerodrome and 250kts in all other class D airspace (MATS 2.4.1.1).
Note 1: Speed limitations are applied to IFR, VFR, and Special VFR.
Note 2: ATC may approve a higher minimum speed if pilot informs ATC it is required (MATS 2.4.1.1.1).
What separation is provided for VFR aircraft in class D airspace?
Nil (MATS 2.4.1.1).
Note: ATS and traffic information on all other flights is provided.
In what class of airspace and type of flight is continuous two-way radio communication not required?
Class G - VFR.
Note: VHF radio required above 5000’ AMSL North of 65 degrees South and at aerodromes where the carrige and use of radio is required
(MATS 2.4.1.1).
Are IFR flights provided with separation from VFR flights in class D airspace?
No (MATS 2.4.1.1).
What types of flight are IFR aircraft in Class D airspace provided separation from?
IFR and Special VFR (MATS 2.4.1.1).
What speed limitations apply to class E airspace for IFR and VFR traffic?
Not above 250kts below 10000’ AMSL (MATS 2.4.1.1).
What seperation is provided for VFR and IFR aircraft in class E airspace?
VFR: Nil
IFR: IFR from IFR (MATS 2.4.1.1).
Is separation provided in class G airspace?
No (MATS 2.4.1.1).
What air traffic services are provided in class G airspace?
Flight information on request (MATS 2.4.1.1).
What speed limitations are imposed in class G airspace?
Not above 250kts below 10000’ AMSL (MATS 2.4.1.1).
Is class G airspace controlled?
No (MATS 2.4.2.1).
