The lifespan wellness and disease experiences of aggregate groups of people residing in local, state, national or international geographic regions or those populations with common characteristics. It is NOT public health.

Difference between population health and public health

A

Public health

  • Core element of population health that focuses on determinants of health, interventions and individual and collective health advocacy and policies
  • More tied to gvt health agencies
  • Epidemics, environmental health, health promotion

Pop health

  • Focuses on a broad set of concerns rather than certain specific activities.
  • Includes health care delivery system, which may be separate or even opposed to gvt system of public health
  • Still considers health outcomes of groups
