Chapter 2 Specialised Cells Flashcards
(12 cards)
Nerve cell(adaptations)
Extended cell to reach all across the body and covered in fat to insulate and quicken the nerve impulses
To collect water and nutrients from the soil
Root hair cell
Red blood cell (adaptation)
Haemoglobin attaches to the oxygen, bi-concave for more surface area and no nucleus
Allow muscle contraction and relaxation
Muscle cell
Supports the plant and lets water run through
Xylem
Transports food in a plant
Phloem
Phloem (adaptation)
Two way flow, have sleeve plates
Root hair cell (adaptation)
Large surface area to collect more water/nutrients and thin walls to not restrict water flowing
Xylem (adaptation)
No top or bottom walls so water can flow through
Muscle cell(adaptation)
Contains mitochondria to release energy. In skeletal muscles the cells merge to contract in unison
Carries oxygen around the body
Red blood cell
To transmit and receive nerve impulses
