3
Q

What are the drug interactions for Lithium carbonate

A

-Diuretics (since lithium is a salt so if you dehydrate the PT they become very hypertonic)
-NSAIDS (Can increase lithium levels)
-Antithyroid meds (because lithium already inhibits the thyroid so it has an additive effect)

Q

what are considerations for lithium carbonate

A

*these are all pretty much to do with the fact that lithium is a salt
-Monitor kidney function/heart function
-Monitor electrolyte levels
-Monitor for any signs of fluid overload or dehydration ie skin turgor edema

17
Q

What are some symptoms of Serotonin syndrome

A

Appears very similar to NMS

18
Q

what are the main differentiating symptoms between NMS and SS

A

-SS pt will have hyperreflexia (hyporeflexia in NMS)
-SS pts pupils will be dilated (normal in NMS)
-SS bowel sounds will be hyperactive (normal in NMS)
