  • mebendazole, pyrantel, thiabendazole: treat intestinal nematodes
  • mebendazole, thiabendazole, albendazole, ivermectin: tissue nemotodes
  • ADRs: n/v/d, abd pn, transient neutropenia, mazzotti reaction (rash within 2-24 hours of po dose) with ivermectin

pinworm: single does of mebendazole, pyrantel pamaole or albendazole
whipworm: pyrnatel pamaole, albendazole, mebendazole
roundworm: mebendazole
hookworm: pyrantel pamaole, albendazole, mebendazole
threadworm: ivermectin, thiabendazole
scabies: off label ivermectin

monitoring of anthelmethics

A

-assess for eradication of helminth
-pre and post treatment stool samply
-albendazole and mebendazole given with high fat meal
ivermectin taken on empty stomach
albendazole should not be given to pregnant women and back up contraceptive needed for 1 month after treatment
