Chapter 26 - Current & Resistance Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
Electric Potential
A
(V) - The Electric Potential Energy (U) per unit of charge that would be possessed if a charged object is placed within an Electric Field at a given location.
Location-based. Most at positive areas.
2
Q
What are the two necessities for running a circuit?
A
- A closed conducting loop in the external circuit that stretches from the high potential, positive terminal to the low potential, negative terminal.
- An energy supply capable of doing work on a charge to move it from a low energy location to a high energy location and thus establish an electric potential difference across the two ends of the external circuit (i.e. a battery).
3
Q
Current
A
Change in the flow of positive charges over change in time.
i = Rate of charge flow over time. The current is simply the ratio of the quantity of charge and time.
i = dq/dt
Units: C/s = Ampere
4
Q
Unit for Current
A
Ampere = Coloumb/Second
