1
Q

Three types of strong chemical bonds.

A

Ionic, Covalent and Metallic.

2
Q

What is a covalent bond?

A

A shared pair of electrons between two non-metals.

3
Q

What is a noble gas?

A

An element which has a full outer shell, found in group 8/0.

4
Q

What are electrostatic forces?

A

The forces of attraction and repulsion between electrically charged particals.

5
Q

What bond always makes a structure called a latice?

A

It’s ionic.

6
Q

True or false:

Non-metal atoms need to recieve electrons to fill the spaces in their outer shell?

A

True!

7
Q

Properties of ionically bonded compounds, give examples:

A

Always solids at room temprature

Giant structures

high melting temp

Conducts electricity when molton but not when solid

8
Q

What does dipolar bonds mean?

A

They are bonds which have to poles which are forces.

9
Q

Can diamond have intermolecular forces?

A

No because for intermolecular forces to be present there needs to be multiple molecules, diamond is made up of multiple crabon atoms tehrefore is the molecule.

10
Q

What is metalic bonding?

A

A lattice of ions existing in a sea of delocalised electrons.

11
Q

What are three types of intermolecular forces?

A
  1. Van der Waals forces
  2. Dipole-dipole forces
  3. Hydrogen bonding
