Chapter 3 ( Chemical Equations + Basics ) Flashcards

1
Q

Why do metal ions for cations?

A

Metals have a sea of delocalised electrons which they need to lose in order to achieve stable noble gas configuration. Hence when they have more protons then electrons their charge is positive as proton is positive 1 charge

Q

Why non metal ions form anions?

A

non metals need electrons from metals to achieve stable noble gas configuration -> anions = electrons > protons

Q

Speciality of ionic equations?

A

involve at least one aqueous reactant (on LHS) that is usually an ionic compound
show the ions that take part in the reaction
