A

Volunteer their time, effort and money. Donate to charitable organization, volunteer as a helper in Food Banks.

Example: Singaporeans can donate money to charitable organization for example, the Salvation Army. They can also donate items to the organization. With the funds collected, the Salvation Army can purchase necessities for the less privileged.

Individuals can influence government’s decisions. How?

A

Share their opinions to the government leaders through platforms such as Meet-The-MP sessions, send emails, respond to surveys.

Singaporeans can also engage the government and provide feedback through REACH (Reaching Everyone for Active Citizenry@Home)

The feedback will allow the government to better understand the perspectives of Singaporeans on the ground. With that, they can better implement policies that meet the needs of Singaporeans.

A

Citizens of common interests can organize themselves to form a group to help in an area of need in the society. Example: Salvation Army - collects and processes donations to be sold at stores and money collected will be used for good cause

What is the Government’s role in maintaining internal and external order?

A

Various agencies formed to look into security of Singapore. Example: Singapore Police Force (SPF) is responsible for protecting people from criminal harm. Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) builds peaceful relations with other countries through diplomacy. Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) keep Singapore safe by begin operationally ready to deter any potential threat.

What is the Government’s role in ensuring justice?

A

The Judiciary consists of the Supreme Court, the State Courts and the Family Justice Courts. Example: Family Justice Courts look into cases like family abuse and violence and take action against guilty individuals. Personal Protection Order (PPO) is issued to victims by the courts to protect individuals when needed.

What is the Government’s role in providing goods and services to citizens?

A

Government sets aside resources to improve the well-being of their citizens through providing goods and services or subsidized by governments.

Example: the Ministry of Transport looks into providing efficient and affordable transport for all. They look into having more bus and train services that improves convenience, build more expressways to ensure better traffic flow.

A

Governments implement policies that safeguards teh interests of citizens.

Example: The government set up the Central Provident Fund (CPF) to enforce compulsory savings for each citizens so that they will have savings after retirement and need not worry about no income.

Example: The government introduced the WorkRight Initiative to help both emloyers and employees understand their rights and responsibilities so that there will be no abuse.

A

The MFA assists in maintaining Singapore’s external security through diplomacy (building good relationships with other countries).

Example: The MFA has provided medical supplies and equipment (including oxygen cylinders, N95 masks) to support Indonesia’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
