Q

Tell me 3 situations that I have rouleaux formation of RBCs and one situations that I will never see such a formation.

A

Rouleaux formations are caused by an increase in fibrinogen (1. AI, 2. CI) or by an increase in immunoglobulins (3. MM)

Abnormally shaped RBCs do not produce rouleaux (SCD)

Q

How is serum albumin affected in AI and how in CI, and WHY?

A

In both situations it is decreased, with a greater decrease in CI.

This happens due to a catabolic effect of inflammation. AAs designated for the synthesis of albumin are used by the liver to synthesize APRs (fibrinogen, hepsidin). In CI, there is a prolonged synthesis of APRs, so there is a greater decrease in albumin.
