What is the open public meetings act
Requires the public and press have advanced notice and opportunity to attend meetings
Commission, authority, board, council, committee or any other group of 2 or more persons organized under the laws of this state
Public Body
Any gathering whether corporeal or by means of communications equipment, which is attended by, or open to, all members of the public
Meeting
Public Business
All matters that relate to the performance of the public body’s functions or the conduct of its business
Written advance notice of at least 48 hours giving time, date and location of meeting

Paid, published and circulated in the municipality or one published in the county

Annually at the beginning of the operational year and before Jan 10th

permanent law of the municipality and continues in effect until it expires
What is the process of adopting an ordinance
First reading - Title only
Advertise in newspaper one week before public hearing
Post in a prominent place in the municipal building
Public Hearing - At least 10 days after introduction
Adoption - Roll call vote of majority present - Faulkner Act Majority of full membership
Advertise in newspaper of adoption need Affidavit

Ordinances published in book form with seal
