Flashcards in Chapter 3 Test Review Deck (20):
Cellular support and movement
Movement of substances through the plasma membrane in which the membrane surrounds the substance, encloses it forming a vesicle and brings it into the cell.
Ingestion of large, solid particles with the use of pseudopodia.
Ingestion of tiny droplets of liquids.
The movement of substances out of a cell by the fusion of vesicles with the plasma membrane resulting in secretions.
Provides support and shape; helps in movements
Larger than microfilament, help in muscle contraction, cell shape, and cell movement.
Reinforce cells and help hold nucleus in place
Near the nucleus; made of two centrioles, each containing 9 clusters of microtubules. The centrioles are always arranged at right angles. During cell division, the centrosome forms the spindle to which the chromosomes attach.
Length is short, numerous...EX: lining of the tracheas
Length is long, few....EX: sper
Modifies, sorts, packages, and delivers proteins and lipids to other organelles.
Group of diseases characterized by abnormal cell growth
Excess tissue that develops in cancers
A cancerous tumor
A tumor that is harmless and does not metastasize (spread)
