How was contact between the French/English and the First Nations positive and Negative

A

The contact between the English and the first nations was positive because the English Indigenous Peoples were able to help traders adjust to the new land and could share their knowledge and expertise. In return, the traders offered useful materials and goods, such as horses, guns, metal knives, and kettles to the Indigenous Peoples.

The first nations got a military alliance and items that they did not have as well as having an Allie, on the negatives the Europeans brought disease had to change their religion and in forming alliances they had enemies.

Q

How was the French and British Fur trade different?

A

The French king controlled the fur trade and used the profits to benefit the colony. He appointed officials to carry out his plans. French traders who paddled on long journeys into the wilderness to trade for furs with the First Nations. Paddled the trade canoes from Montréal to the trading forts. They became known by another French word, voyageurs.

Unlike the French, the English were not interested in creating a colony in what is now Canada. In 1670, the English king granted a charter for control of the fur trade to the privately owned Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC). It had one goal: to make money. This affected the relationship between the English fur traders and the First Nations.
