Chapter 4 Flashcards
(8 cards)
Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA)
The extension of experimental methods to applied settings. Primary focus is on overt behavior rather than covert behavior.
Functional Analysis
Based on ABA. Primary focus is on the behavior of the target student and those observable environmental stimuli that precede and follow it.
Testable Explanation
You think it is the cause but you need to test it to be sure.
Task Analytical Model
If a student doesn’t engage in behavior deemed desirable by the school, he probably lacks one or more of the prerequisites necessary to engage in that behavior.
Disadvantage: It is more difficult to task analyze a social behavior problem than an academic problem.
The Pre-Mod Prerequisites
- The student understands what behavior is expected of him.
- The student is aware of his behavior .
- The student is able to bring his behavior under his control.
- The student knows how to engage in the target behavior.
- The student must consider the consequences of engaging in the target behavior more rewarding or less aversive than the consequences of engaging in the maladaptive behavior.
- The student should not hold any belief that is incompatible with the target behavior.
Locus of Control
The degree to which an individual believes he is able to influence the outcome of situations.
External Locus of Control
People believe they have little or no influence over the outcome of the situation in their lives. The control comes from outside themselves.
