the process of locating and measuring a property’s boundary lines to show the location, size, and shape of the buildings located on a lot

the oldest type of legal description and are used for direction and distance measurements to establish precise boundaries for parcel

are mostly used in urban areas that shows the division of land into blocks and lots and shows the streets within the subdivision that are to be dedicated for public use
