collective rights
were given to certain groups of Canada, the groups all shared collective identity, and collective rights were given to first nations, francophones, and anglophones
numbered treaties
treaties were shared land that could be exchanged for land, education, hunting, reserves, farming

Indian act
the Indian act assimilated the first nations and causing them not to be allowed to do their traditions, wear traditional clothing, or vote. they were not consulted in the making of this act
residential schools
kids from 6-15 need to go to a residential school. kids went through physical, emotional, and mental abuse. children were also separated from their parents and when they went to go meet them they couldn’t teach them their traditions
metis
metis are people who are both European and first nation, the metis didn’t have the same rights as the first nations, they instead had scrips. the scrips could later be turned in for a numbered treaty

road signs must be in French and English
