Chapter 4 tissues Flashcards
(35 cards)
What are the 4 types of tissues?
Epithelial, Connective, Muscle, Nervous
What are the types of Epithelial Tissue? (Shapes)
Squamous, Cuboidal, Columnal, Transitional, Pseudo
What are the type of Epithelial tissue? (Arrangement of cells)
Simple and stratified
What is purpose of simple squamous epithelium tissue?
Allows materials to pass through by diffusion and filtration (found in the lungs)
What is the purpose of simple cuboidal epithelium?
Secretes and absorbs ( found in the kidneys)
What is the purpose of simple columnar epithelium tissue?
Absorbs ( found in digestive tract)
What is the purpose of Pseudostratified columnar epithelium?
Secretes mucus (found in trachea)
What is the purpose of stratified squamous epithelium?
Protects against abrasion ( found in mouth and vagina) (skin)
What is the purpose of stratified cuboidal epithelium?
Protective tissue (found in sweat and salivary glands)
What is the purpose of stratified columnar epithelium ?
Secretes and protects (found in male urethra)
What is the purpose of transitional epithelium?
Allows the bladder to expand and stretch ( found in the urinary bladder)
What type of tissue is the most abundant in the body?
Connective
What are the types of connective tissue?
Connective proper, Bone, cartilage, blood
What is Areolar?
Glue that holds organs together
What is adipose?
Fat cells that provide insulation
What is reticular tissue?
Loose connective tissue that provides a supportive frame for soft organs
What is fibrous?
Bundles of strong collagen fibers (tendon)
What is bone?
Matrix is calcified ( for our protection and support)
What is cartilage?
Matrix is consistency of gristle like gel
What are the two types of muscle?
Loose and dense
What is blood?
A connective tissue that functions as transport and protection
What are the types of bone?
Short,Long,Irregular, sesamoid
Function of bone
Makes blood cells, stores calcium and phosphorous (supports our body)
What are the types of muscle tissue?
Cardiac, smooth, skeletal
