What regions typically vote conservative
South east is the most prosperous with the highest levels of home ownership in the uk. The conservatives do well there.
They tend to do well in any ethnically white rural areas like the south coast and east anglia.
However some areas that traditionally don’t vote tory are starting to.
In the west Midlands conservative support increased by 18.4% in the period 2010-19 and in Yorkshire and humber it increased by 14%.
Some places that were thought to be headlands for certain parties are no longer guaranteed. Shows that FPTP may not encourage safe seats as much as it once did.
what regions do Labour dominate.
The dominate ethnically diverse big cities with large working class populations.
For example Manchester, London Merseyside south Wales and Tyne and Wear.
48% of London voted for Labour in 2019 compared to 32% conservative.
In Wales in 2005 42.8% voted for labour compared to 21.4% for labour
London has increasingly become a labour stronghold with the party’s share of the vote increasing 9.2% between 2010 and 2019 despite Labour losing all those elections.
How does Ofcom create impartiality on Tv in the uk.
Ofcom regulates television and radio broadcasts to ensure ‘due impartiality’ The BBC ITV Channel 4 and Channel 5 are expected to provide balance in their approach.
How does Age influence voting in the uk.
Generally the older voters vote for conservative whereas the younger voter vote for Labour and Lib Dem.
In 2017 Jermemny Corbyn gained a lot of popularity among younger voters. He stance to abolish tuition fees gained support among younger people.
In 2024 18-24 year olds mostly voted for Labour. Most people 65+ voted for reform or for the conservatives.
However it is possible to overcome this. In 1997 Labour achieved a 5% lead on 65+ helping them chaise a landslide victory.
