chapter 5 Flashcards
Diffusion
*Gas exchange occurs at the lungs between the alveoli and the capillaries
*Gas exchange occurs in the muscle between
Increased oxygen uptake (volume)
Oxygen uptake (v02) is the volume of oxygen transported to, taken up by and used by the body for energy production. It is usually expressed in I/min
Increased oxygen intake
When exercise begins oxygen uptake increases as the working muscles use it made possible by the responses by the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. It increases linearly up to Vo2 max intensity. If an athlete works this is said that they are working anaerobically.
LIP
Lactate inflection point (the point at which you get tired)
Represents the highest intensity point where is a balance between lactate production and removal from the blood
LIP in depth
Is the highest steady state intensity that an athlete can sustain without the rapid onset of fatigue (critical speed)
Once the buildup happens the athlete now must reduce intensity to allow for H+/lactate removal if they are to continue working for a long duration
Slowing down can reset your LIP
