Chapter 5 Flashcards
What are the three parts of the brain
Fore, mid and hind brain
What does the hind brain include
Cerebellum, pons, medulla and parts of reticular formation
What does the mid brain include
Parts of the reticular
What does the forebrain include
Thalamus, hypothalamus and cerebrum
What is the thalamus
Relay centre for incoming sensory information to parts of the cortex for further process
What is the cerebral cortex
3mm think layer over the cerebrum
What does the frontal lobe include
Includes primary motor cortex
What does the parietal lobe include
Includes the somatosensory cortex
What does the temporal lobe include
Includes primary auditory cortex
What does the occipital lobe include
Includes primary visual cortex
What are the 4 lobes
Frontal, parietal, occipital and temporal lobes
What is the frontal lobe used for
Includes brocas area ( used for speech production) planning and main body functions
What is the parietal lobe responsible for
Responsible for loacting body space and determining the location of objects and controls sensory neurons
What is the temporal lobe responsible for
Responsible for auditory process including wernickes area, also involved in recognition of objects and faces and in memory
What is the occipital lobe used for
Responsible for processing virtual information
