Chapter 5 Motor Sensory And Perceptual Development Flashcards
1
Q
Who is Arnold Gesellschaft?
A
A developmentalist that created the dynamic systems view
2
Q
What is the dynamic systems view?
A
- Children develop motor skills in a fixed order and within specific time frames: the unfolding of genetic plan or maturation
- For infants, perception and action are coupled: to develop motor skills infants must perceive something in the environment that motivates them to act and use their perceptions to fine-tune their movements
3
Q
What does it mean when we say perception and action are coupled?
A
- To develop motor skills, infants must perceive something in the environment that motivates them to act and use their perceptions to fine-tune their movement
– motor skills represent solutions to the infant school
– when infants are motivated to do something to create a new motor behaviour
4
Q
And infants new behaviour is the result of converging factors, what are those factors?
A
– The development of the nervous system
– the bodies physical properties and it’s possibilities for movement
– the goal the child is motivated to reach
– the environmental support for the skill
