What is an equivalent ratio?
Two ratios that name the same number. Write them as you would write equivalent fractions.
What is a ratio?
A comparison of two quantities by division. You write it as:
5:7, 5 to 7, 5/7
What is a rate?
A ratio that compares two quantities in different units.
Ex: 15grams/5servings
What is an unit rate?
The rate for one unit of a given quantity. Find by dividing both rates by the denominator. Ex: 15/5=3, 5/5=1 so 15/5=3/1
What is a unit cost?
A unit rate that gives the cost per unit. Find the same way you find the unit rate.
What is a proportion?
An equation stating that two rations are equal. Find this by using mental math, unit rates, or cross products.
What are cross products?
The two products found by multiplying the denominator of each ratio by the numerator of the other ratio. Ex: 6/8=9/12 find if proportional by 6x12=8x9
What is a polygon?
A closed plane figure formed by 3 or more lines that don’t cross.
Two polygons are similar if…
The angles have the same measurements and if the sides form equivalent ratios.
What is a scale drawing?
An enlarged or reduced drawing of an actual object.
What is a scale?
The ratio that compresses the length in a drawing to the corresponding length of the actual object.
