Chapter 5 Tissues – Part 1-Epithelial Tissue Flashcards
(17 cards)
How many basic primary tissue types are there and what are they?
4-
Nervous tissue, Muscle tissue, Epithelial tissue, Connective tissue.
What does the nervous tissue include and what are its functions?
Brain, spinal cord and nerves.
It transmits electrical signals from sensory receptors to effectors, which control activity; supporting self support and protect neutrons.
What does the muscle tissue include and where is its location?
3types
•Skeletal muscles -Muscles attached to bones
• Cardiac muscle -Muscles of heart
• Smooth muscles -Muscles of walls of hollow organs
Name two types of epithelial tissue
• covering and lining
• glandular
What does the CT include? (4)
• connective tissue (proper)
• bones
• cartilage
• blood
What is epithelial tissue?
It is a sheet of cells that covers a body surface or lines of body cavity
What is avascular?
Without blood vessels
Remind me of what diffusion is?
It is the net movement of molecules from greater concentration to less concentration. Passive transport.
What is mitosis?
Cellular division
What are the functions of epithelial tissue?
Protection, filtration, lubrication, secretion, digestion, absorption, transportation, excretion, sensory reception (to a degree), and reproduction
What is the flat pancake shaped epithelial cell called?
Sqamous layer
-because of it’s the nature, it’s great for moving substances or nutrients across
-Great absorption
-Not strong or sturdy.
What epithelial cell is shaped as a cube?
Cuboidal
-Medial function
What epithelial cell is oblong and shaped like a column?
Columnar
-a lot more volume and can house more organelles to make more stuff. Strong and sturdy.
What is a pseudostratified columnar cell?
A single layer with somata (body of an organism) at differing heights, nuclei seen at different levels.
What is the structure, function, and location of the pseudostratified columnar cells?
• structure-single layer of flat cells; sparse cytoplasm
•function- secretion (mucus) and mucus propulsion. Propulsion of mucus by ciliary action.
• location- sperm carrying ducts; ciliated in TRACHEA, upper respiratory tract.
Loose and dense are types of_________ct.
Fibrous
Transitional epithelia- structure, function, location
Stratified squamous/cuboidal
(Function) Stretches readily
Bladder
