The Late Period began when Aejang came to power and was marked by frequent and violent leader changes, starting with his murder in 809 by his uncle, King Heondeok
In the turmoil, how was it that Munseong was able to hold onto the throne?
The Sillan nobility stopped fighting for the capital and instead built private enclaves in outer areas, letting Munseong keep the throne.
Why was the Fujiwara clan such a threat to Kammu?
Because they had become more powerful than all of the other aristocratic clans in Japan.
