Marital success can be determined through 4 major criteria:

1. Durability
2. Approximation of ideals
3. Fulfillment of needs
4. Satisfaction

What Fulfillment of Needs need to be addressed for marital success? What are two cautions that should be added to the fulfillment of needs?

Answer 2

There are four individual needs for marital success:

1. Psychological needs: love, affection approval, and self-fulfillment
2. Social needs: companionship, friendship, and new experiences
3. Sexual needs: both physical and psychological sexual fulfillment
4. Material needs: home, physical maintence, and services

Two cautions

1. It is helpful if need fulfillment is mutual
2. Mutual need fulfillment is most possible if needs fall within limits of realistic expectations
