What is the Masculine Gender?
A noun that denotes a male.
What is the Feminine Gender?
A noun that denotes a female.
What is a Common Gender?
A noun that denotes either a male or female.
What is the Neuter Gender?
A noun that denote a thing without life, that is neither male nor female.
How are objects without life personified?
The object are spoken of as if they were living beings.
How does the Masculine Gender get applied to personification?
It is applied to objects with remarkable strength and violence.
How does the Feminine Gender get applied to personification?
It is applied to objects with remarkable beauty, gentleness, and gracefulness.
What are the three ways to form Feminine Nouns?
- By using an entirely different word, i.e. Boy, girl, or Buck, doe, etc.)
- By adding a syllable (-ess, -ine, -trix, -a, etc.) Author, authoress, or Lion, lioness.
- By placing a word before or after; as Grandfather, grandmother.
