Chapter 6E - Faraday's laws in electrolytic cells Flashcards
(2 cards)
1
Q
State Faraday’s 1st Law
A
The mass of a substance deposited, evolved or dissolved at an electrode during electrolysis is proportional to the quantity of electricity (electrical charge) passed through the cell.
2
Q
State Faraday’s 2nd Law
A
For 1 mole of a substance to be deposited, evolved or dissolved at the electrode during electrolysis, a whole number of electrons (faradays) is required according to the relevant half equation.
