Whig Model
The idea that presidents should use only the powers explicitly granted in the Constitution.
Stewardship Model
The idea that the president is only limited by explicit restrictions in the constitution.
New Deal
A set of policies and programs advanced by Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1930s with the aim of pulling the nation out of the Depression.
Cabinet
A group of presidential advisers, primarily the secretaries of federal departments.
Executive Office of the President (EOP)
A group of presidential staff agencies created in 1939 that provides the president with help and advice.
Office of Management and Budget (OMB)
A cabinet-level office that monitors federal agencies and provides the president with expert advice on fiscal policy - related topics.
Social Security
Federal program started in 1935 that taxes wage and salaries to pay for retirement benefits, disability insurance, and hospital insurance.
