Q

What are the three types of muscle cells?

A
  1. Skeletal - Voluntary muscle that you have conscious control over.
  2. Cardiac - Involuntary - Muscle that you have no conscious control over. Eg. Heart
  3. Smooth - Involuntary - Muscle that you have no conscious control over. Eg. Veins, Lungs etc.

Q

Step-by-Step process of Tissue Culturing?

A
  1. The tissue sample is removed.
  2. Growth in glassware. (In Vitro)
  3. Place the sample in sterile nutritive fluid.
  4. Growth is by mitosis (full copy/replication)

16
Q

What is Micropropagation?

A

Cells - Callus - Embryos - Plants

17
Q

What are 3 advantages of micropropagation?

A
  1. Large quantity in a short amount of time.
  2. Genetically Identical
  3. Inexpensive
18
Q

What are MAB’s-Monoclonial Antibodies?

A

They identify cancer cells by colour change. Toxic drugs are attached to MAB’s therefore deliver only to cancer cells.

19
Q

What is an organ?

A

A number of tissues that work together to carry out a specific function.
Eg. - In plants: Leaf, Stem, Root
Eg.- In animals: Heart, Liver, Brain.

20
Q

What is an organ system?

A

A number of organs that work together to preform one or more function.

21
Q

How many systems does the human body have?

A

10 Systems

22
Q

Example of a Human Organ System.

A

The Circulatory System - Heart, Blood Vessels, Arteries, Capillaries etc.
