41
What is an element?
Contain only one type of atom.
42
What is a compound?
Two or more different types of atoms bonded together (can't separate)
43
What is a mixture?
Two or more elements, two or more compounds or a combination of both. (Can separate)
44
What is a molecule?
Two or mor atoms joined together.
45
What is an alchemist?
An olden day chemist you mixed chemicals and tried to change metals into gold.
46
What is a scientist?
People skilled in working in the fields of science. They observe and investigate.
47
How many natural atoms are there?
92
48
What are electrons?
Very light, negatively charged particles inside an atom. Move around nucleus.
49
What are protons?
Tiny, but heavy particle found in the nucleus. Have a positive charge.
50
What is a nucleus?
Central part of an atom. Made up of protons and neutrons.
51
What are neutrons?
Tiny, but heavy found in the nucleus. No charge.
52
Atomic Number?
Number of protons in the nucleus.
53
Mass Number?
Number of Protons + Neutrons.
54
How can elements be separated from compounds?
Burning, mixing or electricity.
55
How can water be split?
Electricity. It splits into Hydrogen and Oxygen.
56
Properties of metals?
Solid at room temp, polished, good conductors of heat and electricity, bent into a variety of shapes (malleable), made into wire (ductile), melt at high temps.
57
Properties of Non Metals?
Not polished, brittle, not malleable, poor conductors, melt at low temps.
58
Metalloids?
Properties of metals and non metals. Along zig, zag line! Silicon.
