(16 cards)
Transformation
A transformation is a one-to-one correspondence between two sets of points.
Translation
The composite of two successive reflections through parallel lines.
Reflection
The reflection of point P lies on the perpendicular bisector of L and is equidistant from the mirror.
Rotation
The composite of two successive reflections through intersecting lines.
Magnitude
The distance between two translations or the measure of the angle between two rotations.
The point something rotates around?
Center of rotation
Dilation
Changing the measures from bigger to smaller, but the angles stay the same.
Isometry
A transformation where the shape remains congruent.
Glide reflection
The composite of a translation and a reflection in a line parallel to the direction of the translation.
Congruent
Two figures are congruent if there is an isometry such that one figure is the image of the other.
Glide reflection is the combination of two transformation, which two are they?
A reflection + a translation.
A translation is the combination of two transformation, which two are they?
A reflection + a reflection.
Rotation symmetry
A figure has rotation symmetry with respect to a point iff it coincides with its rotation image through less than 360 degree about a point.
Reflection (line) symmetry
A figure has reflection (line) symmetry with respect to a line iff it coincides with its reflection image through the line.
Translation symmetry
A pattern had translation symmetry iff it coincides with a translation image.
Point symmetry
When a shape overlays when rotated 180 degrees.
