Describe the process of making a stained glass window.
- Artist would draw a full-scale line drawing on a board (called a cartoon).
- Sheets of colored glass were placed over the cartoon and cut to size.
- Paint would be applied to create shading and line detail.
- Individual pieces were fired in a kiln to harden the pigment.
- Pieces placed together like a large jigsaw puzzle.
- Soldered into place with I shaped lead strips.
- Stone tracery or iron bars were used to hold the window flat.
