What was the main reason(s) the Muslims were able to take Spain from the Christians?
The Muslim army defeated the Visigoth army easily and Spain was vulnerable after internal struggles.
What is the dominant reason that the Muslims lost control of Spain to the Christians? Unification of Christians kingdoms.
The divisions within the Muslim ruled territories. WIth weak leaders and a non-unified spain.
What was the Reconquista? What consequences did it have?
The Reconquista was a series of wars in Portugal and Spain to reclaim land taken by the Muslims. But the consequences were the fact that a lot of the population was lost.
Who were King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella?
The rulers of Spain at the time.
What was the purpose of the Spanish Inquisition? Who was targeted?
The purpose was to convert as many people as possible and get everyone to turn into catholicism. It targeted anyone who was suspected of practicing other religion or witchcraft.
What is the “Conquistadors’ Formula”?
It was the formula the Spanish followed to make sure they could conquer places efficiently and with great stealth.
How did the Aztecs and the Spanish differ in fighting strategy?
The Spanish had more modern tools made of steel and hard medals while the Aztecs had wood. The Spanish also had strong armour and horses that could help inflict fear into people and give them better mobility. The Spanish also had lots of germs that the Aztecs had not developed immune systems for and this killed them.
List the advantages that the Spanish had over the Aztecs in battle.

The spread of germs and diseases like smallpox.
Who was Malinche? What did she provide to Cortes?
She was from Nahuatl and served as an interpreter, advisor, and mistress to Hernán Cortés who would also spie on the Aztecs to get valuable information.
What was the relationship between Cortes and Moctezuma like?
Their relationship was more double sided since the Aztecs welcomed the Spanish not knowing they would betray them and they gave them many gifts and tours of their city. This led to Moctezuma getting captured and the downfall of the Aztecs.
How did Cortes successfully win the battle against the Aztecs?
He acted like their friend at first and had spies within to give him information. He then used his guns, germs and steel to his advantage and eventually when the Aztecs got sick, he cut off their water supply and this led to their destruction.
