Chapter 9 Flashcards
(24 cards)
What is the stress stream curve and it’s associated tissue properties?
Explanation of the tissue failure
Explains, stiffness, yield point, creep, injury
What is muscle strain?
Stretching of tissue
What is muscle cramps?
Involuntary muscle contractions
What is muscle guarding?
Muscle contraction in response to pain
What is muscle soreness?
Pain from overuse/overexertion
How does a damage nerve heal?
Doesn’t, damaged nerves never reiterate
What are myofascial trigger points?
A hypersensitive nodule within a taut band of skeletal muscle and or fascia
Where are myofascial trigger points most likely to occur?
The muscles involved in postural support
What are the signs and symptoms of myofascial trigger points?
Very tender at the point of pain
How are tendinitis, tenosynovitis, and bursitis related to one another?
All have to do with inflammation of a tendon
How does osteoarthritis develop?
Overuse
What are the injuries occurring to synovial joint structures?
Dislocation, subluxation, ligament sprains, osteoarthritis, bursitis, capsulitis, synovitis
What is subluxation?
When the bone pops out of the joint and then goes back in
What is dislocation?
When the bone pops out of the joint and stays out
How do the three grades of ligament sprains differ?
Each one is a more serious version of the last
What are the various types of fractures?
Greenstick, comminuted, linear, nondisplaced(transverse and oblique), spiral, displaced
How does a stress fracture differ from a regular fracture?
Stress fractures are from overuse of a body part
What is the most common epiphyseal condition?
Sever’s disease
What are the relationships of postural deviations to injuries?
Everything is connected in the kinetic chain
What forces injure muscle tissue?
Compression, tension, shearing, bending, torsion
What are the types of muscle tendinous injuries?
Strains, cramps, guarding, spasms, soreness, tendon injuries, myofascial, trigger points, contusion, atrophy, and contracture
What are the characteristics that make a long bones susceptible to fracture?
The thickness of a long bone decreases making it easier to break
What Mechanical forces cause fracture of a bone?
Impact
How does stress fractures probably occur?
Overuse
