Q

Which type of interfaces should PortFast be used on?

A

PortFast should be used on end-user device interfaces such as a laptop or PC. The reason for this is so the PC can move to an active forwarding state as soon as the NIC is active after an initial boot. Without PortFast, the user would have to wait on the switch to determine that the port is a DP.

Q

What is STP?

A

Spanning Tree Protocol is a protocol used to prevent broadcast storms. STP allows for redundant links on a LAN and prevents loops from happening. This means that if a link or switch should fail, there’s another link that can continue doing the work.
