abrasion
Open wound caused by rubbing against a rough surface
contusion
bruise, region where capillaries have been ruptured
Avulsion
a small chunk of bone attached to a tendon or ligament gets pulled away from the main part of the bone
Bite
a cut caused by using teeth (ex: insect bites)
Hematoma
clotted blood that forms in an organ, tissue, or body space. caused by head injuries, falls, aneurysms and broken blood vessels
laceration
a deep cut in the skin
blister
a fluid-filled bubble on the skin caused by friction, burning, or hypersensitivity
adema
swelling caused by excess fluid in the body tissues
Dehydration
An abnormally low amount of water in the body.

Tissue that covers outside of the body - skin
Epitherial injuries
abrasions, lacerations, punctures, avulsions, infection, inflammation, disease
connective tissue
A body tissue that provides a framework for the organs
soft connective tissue
adipose tissue - stores fat as food reserve, forms fibrous connective tissue, tendons, ligaments
hard connective tissue
cartilage and bone - shock absorber, found in nose, ears, voice box
Callus
Think layers of skin, often on the hand or feet, where friction often repeats
Sting
a wound caused by a sting
puncture wound
an open wound made by a sharp object
incision
a surgical cut made in skin or flesh
nerve tissue
neurons; communication to muscles, organs, systems
short-term nerve damage
