Q

What is the relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration?

A

Photosynthesis removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and cellular respiration puts it back. Photosynthesis releases oxygen into the atmosphere, and cellular respiration uses that oxygen to release energy from food.

Q

What is a calorie?

A

is an amount of energy needed to raise 1 gram of water 1 degrees Celsius. Food labels that say Calorie (capital C) are actually in kilocalories which are equal to 1000 calories.

Q

What is aerobic respiration?

A

pathways of cellular respiration that require oxygen. The krebs cycle and electron transport both require oxygen (so are aerobic processes)

Q

What is anaerobic respiration?

A

pathways of cellular respiration that do not require oxygen. Glycolysis does not directly require oxygen (so is anaerobic processes)
