rehabilitation: helping someone regain a skill that has been lost
compensatory: help an individual adapt or deal with a situation, there is usually no cure

What are speech disorders?

A

This would be having trouble saying sounds, stuttering, or voice problems

What are speech sound disorders?

A

An impairment in the way speech sounds and is produced, it can be often secondary to an issue such as a cleft palate

What is dysphonia?

A

A voice disorder that causes poor voice quality

What are motor speech disorders?

A

Dysarthria: weakness, spasticity, or incoordination alters the ability to produce clear speech; ex: basal ganglia, cerebellum, cranial and spinal nerves
Apraxia: speech motor planning and programming; effects specific part of Broca’s area in the motor strip

A

interruption in the flow of speaking characterized by atypical rate, rhythm, and disfluencies
