Chapter One. All Flashcards
(19 cards)
Antoni Van Leewenholk.
Used a very powerful single lense microscope.
Robert Hooke
Homemade microscope with three lenses. Interest in cork slices. Discovered, and named cells.
Hans. And zachrious Jansen
Invented first compound microscope
Cell Membrane.
Separates cell from environment. Semi permeable membrane. Made of lipids
Nucleus.
Directs the cells activities. Contains the nucleolus.
Nucleolus
Center of nucleus activity. Contains DNA. And genetic material.
Lysome.
Digest food, even old cell parts, and infectious invaders. Low PH
Rough endoplasmic retiticulum.
Location of ribosomes for portein manufacture. Folded.
Smooth endoplasmic retiticulum
Manufactures fats for cell use. Connected to rough endoplasmic retiticulum.
Golgi apparatus.
Sorts out signals from the nucleus. And sends them to various parts of the cell. Attached to nucleus.
Mitochondria
Converts chemical energy into forms that can be used by the cell. ATP
Vacuole
Contains water waste and sometime poison large in plants small in animals.
Cell wall.
Rigid cellulose that gives cell its shape.
Chloroplasts.
Manufactures food from water cardon dioxide and sunlight.
Cytoplasm
Jelly like filling in the cell
Vesicle
Pinches off part of the cell membrane. Isolates food, chemical, waste.
Ribosomes.
Protein based signal. Most of them on rough ER.
Centriole.
Responsible. For actual process of cell division. Provides shape and structure driving process.
Cell theory.
- all plants and animals contain cells. One or more.
- all cell arise from preexisting cells
- all functions of life take place in cells making them the smallest unit of life.
