Chapters 9 & 10 Flashcards
(38 cards)
Solid
3d shape
Prism
- 3d shape
- 2 parallel congruent polygons
Angle bisector
Splits angles equally
Perpendicular bisector
- passes through midpoint of a line segment
- and is perpendicular to it
- splits exactly in half
Median
Connects a vertex of a triangle to opposite side length
Radius circle (formula)
Pi r ^2
Pi x radius squared
Circumference circle (formula)
D pi
Diameter x pi
Radius
- line segment
- center of circle -> outside
Minor arc
- less then 180*
- 2 letters
Major arc
- over 180*
- 3 letters
Intercepted arc
- more then 2 angles
- share the same part of the arc
Chord
- passes through circle
- 2 endpoints
Central angle
- 2 radii meet at center of circle
- same measure has outside arc
- 2x inscribed angle
Inscribed Angle
- angle
- vertex on the circle
- 1/2 of arc length
Tangent line
-intercepts circle 1 time
Point of Tangency
-intersection point is perpendicular to diameter
Think circle with line running next to, form 90* angles
Secant line
-passes through 2 points of a circle
think of a zig zagged line
Circumscribe
Circle that passes through 3 points of triangle
Think : circle is drawn around the triangle
Circumcenter
- 3 perpendicular bisectors meet
(Think: triangle with 90* angles drawn form the center of each side) and then intersect
Centroid
- center of gravity
(Remember pencil balancing) - 3 medians intersect
Point of Concurrency
- 3+ lines intercept at 1 point
Inscribe
- literally: shape drawn within another
- think: circle drawn within triangle (hits at 3 points)
Incenter
-3 angle bisectors meet (on a triangle)
Finding a length of a chord
- dont forget to use
Pythagorean theorm or trig
** will always do the trick 😜**
