People with ASD have strict routines, behaviour patterns and fixed interests
Repetitive behaviour patterns.
Routines, rituals, resistance to change.
Restricted/fixed interests.
Unusual reactions to sensory input.
Describe the social-emotional reciprocity characteristic of ASD.
Struggling to convey interests/emotions.
Doesn’t initiate conversation/finds it difficult to respond meaning can be a 1 sided interaction as it’s difficult to maintain flow.
May give an inappropriate response.
Describe the non-verbal communication characteristic of ASD.
They rarely use facial expressions and sometimes use non-verbal cues innapropriately.
Expressions may not match conversation.
May have issues with personal space (sitting too close).

What is ASD?
A lifelong developmental disorder that begins in childhood and impairs everyday functioning. It’s on a spectrum which means everyone shares the core difficulties but to different degrees.
