Characteristics of living organisms Flashcards
What are the 7 life processes
1) Movement
2) Respiration
3) Sensitivity
4) Growth
5) Reproduction
6) Excretion
7) Nutrition
What is movement
An action by an organism or part of it causing a change of position or place
What is respiration
The chemical reactions that break down nutrient molecules in living cells to release energy for metabolism
What is sensitivity
The ability to detect/sense changes in the internal/ external environment to make appropriate responses
What are the changes in sensitivity called
Stimulus/ Stimuli
What is growth
The process in which an organism changes in size or form
What is reproduction
The process that makes the more of the same kind of organism (produces an offspring)
What is excretion
Removal of toxic materials, the waste products of metabolism and substances in excess of requirements from organisms
What is nutrition
The taking in of materials for energy, growth and development.
