Chemical, Biological and Radiological Warefare Flashcards
(31 cards)
What is chemical warfare?
The employment of chemical agents that are intended for use in operations to kill, seriously injure, or incapacitate personnel.
What are the four chemical agents?
Nerve agent
Blister agent
Blood agent
Choking agent
What is a nerve agent?
Liquid, disrupts nerve impulses to the body while damaging body funtions rather that tissue.
What is a blister agent?
Liquid or solid, cause inflammation, blister and general destruction of tissues. can result in temporary blindness and/or death.
What is a blood agent?
Gaseous, attack enzymes carrying oxygen in the blood stream. Rapid breathing or chocking may occur due to lack of oxygen in the blood.
What is a choking agent?
Gaseous or liquid, lungs become filled with fluid, making victum feel as if drowning, breathing is shallow and rapid.
What is M9 chemical agent detector paper?
Detects the presence of liquid chemical agentsby turning reddish in color, does not detect vapor.
What is atropine/2-PAM-chloride?
Its an auto injector used for nerve agent casualties.
What is biological warfare?
Use of agents to cause disease, sickness, or death to reduce the effectiveness of opposing combatant forces.
What are the two biological agents?
Pathogens
Toxins
What are pathogens?
bacteria, rickettsia, viruses, fungi, protozoa and prions
What are toxins?
Toxins produced from organisms that cause physiological affects in humans. animal venoms, plant toxins, algal toxins
What is chemical/biological individual protective equipment (IPE)?
MCU-2P mask with C-2 canister filter Advanced chemical protective garment (ACPG) Chemical gloves and liners Chemical protective overboots and laces Skin decontamination kit
What is radiological warfare?
Diliberate use of radiological weapons to produce widespread injury and death of all life.
What are the 5 types of nuclear explosions?
High altitude air burst Air burst Surface burst Shallow underwater burst Deep underwater burst
What is the effects of High altitude air burst?
100,00+ feet, ionosphere disruptions and EMP
What is the effects of Air burst?
does not touch surface, vaccuum created, radiation fallout
What is the effects of Surface burst?
fireball touches surface, worst fallout, massive radioactive fallout
What is the effects of Shallow underwater burst?
small firebal and blast wave causes large waves and water contamination
What is the effects of Deep underwater burst?
less visual effect and yields greater contaminated water
What are the shipboard shielding stations?
Ready-shelter
Deep-shelter
What is a ready-shelter?
minimum shielding from nuclear radiation and allow the crew to remain close to battle stations
What is a deep-shelter?
provide maximum shielding from nuclear radiation, often requiring personnel to be far removed from battle stations
What is DT-60 dosimeter?
placed in a special radiac computer-indicator to determine the total amount of gamma radiation to which the wearer is exposed in the 0-600 roentgens.
