Chemical Reactions Flashcards
(6 cards)
1
Q
Combination or Synthesis Reaction type
A
- e.g, a boy and a girl come to the dance by themselves and end up dnacing with each other all night
- when a metal is in its elemental state and a non-metal also in its elemental state for form a compound
- A + B -> AB
2
Q
Decomposition Reaction type
A
- e.g, a boy and a girl come to the dance together as a couple, but they get into a fight and leave by themselves
- when an ionic compound (metal + non-metal) splits. the metal and non-metal are now seperated.
- AB -> A + B
3
Q
Single Displacement Reaction Type
A
- e.g, a boy and a girl come together to the dance, but one of them finds a new person to dance with and the other person is left by themselves
- when an ionic compound interacts with a metal or non-metal. forms a new compound and other is left on it’s own.
- AB + C -> A + CB
4
Q
Double Displacement Reaction Type
A
- e.g, Two couples come to the dance together bu end up switching dates
- when two ionic compounds interacts with and form two new compounds
- AB + CD -> AD + CB
5
Q
Types of Reactions
A
- Double Displacement (NaCl + AgNO3 -> AgCl + NaNO3)
- Combination (2H2 + 02 -> 2H2O)
- Single Displacement (KBr + I2 -> Ki + Br2)
- Decomposition (BF4 -> B + 2F2)
6
Q
Precipitation Reactions
A
- double displacement
- two aqueous solutions mixed
- forms a product that is a solid (known as a percipitate)
- ## can tell if there are two ionic compounds (both reactants are aq and a product is a solid)
